چکیده
A comparison was made of the in vitro activity of ciprofloxacin (Bay o 9867) with nine other antibiotics against isolates of Campylobacter jejuni, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Yersinia enterocolitica, Clostridium difficile, Vibrio spp., and Escherichia coli. Minimum inhibitory concentrations of ciprofloxacin were the lowest of any compound tested for all organisms except C. difficile.

In vitro activities of lomefloxacin and temafloxacin against pathogens causing diarrhea.
The in vitro activities of temafloxacin (A63004) and lomefloxacin (SC-47111; NY-198) were compared with those of seven other antibiotics against 146 isolates of bacterial enteric pathogens, including Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli. Ciprofloxacin was the most active drug against the Salmonella, Shigella, Yersinia, and Vibrio spp. tested. Lomefloxacin, temafloxacin, and difloxacin we...
متن کاملIn vitro activity of azithromycin against bacterial enteric pathogens.
The in vitro activity of azithromycin against enteric bacterial pathogens was determined by agar dilution. Azithromycin was highly active against Campylobacter spp. (MIC for 90% of strains tested [MIC90] = 0.125 micrograms/ml) and against enterotoxigenic, enterohemorrhagic, enteroinvasive, and enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (MIC90 = 2 micrograms/ml), Shigella spp. (MIC90 = 1 micrograms/ml), ...
متن کاملAntimicrobial activity of Zatacin against bacterial diarrheal pathogens
Background: Calf diarrhea is an important disease that is caused by different pathogens including bacteria, virus and parasites and is associated with economic losses. Objectives: In this study, we evaluated the antibacterial activities of Zatacin (Z. multiflora aerial part ethanol extract), colistin, co-Trimoxazole and enrofloxacin against clinical isolates of Salmonella sp, E. coli and Campyl...
متن کاملIn vitro antibacterial activity of norfloxacin (MK-0366, AM-715) and other agents against gastrointestinal tract pathogens.
A comparison was made of the in vitro activities of norfloxacin and of nine other orally administered antibacterial agents against 180 clinical isolates representing the bacterial species most frequently implicated in infections of the gastrointestinal tract in humans. The 90% minimal inhibitory concentrations showed norfloxacin to be 4, 15, 4, 17, 17, 17, and 33 times more active than the next...
متن کاملCharacteristics of bacterial pathogens associated with acute diarrhea in children under 5 years of age: a hospital-based cross-sectional study
BACKGROUND Acute diarrhea is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children, particularly in those under the age of 5 years. Rotavirus is recognized as the leading cause of acute diarrhea in children, however, the contribution of bacterial pathogens as causative agents varies throughout the world. Here we report a hospital-based prospective study to analyze the characteristics of bacter...
